FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. HOW MANY CHILDREN CAN BE IN THE AUDIENCE?

If the space has good acoustics and the visual line is unimpaired such as in a theater type auditorium, up to 400, but in such spaces as a cafeteria or gym 200 or under is optimum. The large pastel drawings can be seen clearly up to 50 feet away, and sound is amplified with portable speakers.

  1. FOR WHAT AGE GROUP IS THE SHOW APPROPRIATE?

The show is appropriate for K-12, but works best when grades are divided into K-5 and 6-12.  It is not appropriate for preschool children. The show and workshops work extremely well for grades 3- 8. Each show and workshop is tailored to the age group.

  1. WHAT KIND OF SPACE IS NEEDED?

Almost any large space will do as long as there is adequate lighting and electric outlets. Children can sit on the floor if it is a gymnasium,  cafeteria or all-purpose room. The show works best for large audiences up to 400 when there is a stage.

  1. HOW LONG IS THE SHOW?

The show is normally 45 minutes long which allows time for a question and answer period and /or students to go between class and the performance. It can be shortened or expanded depending on individual school circumstances.

  1. IS THERE AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION?

Mr. Wolverton involves the audience in response to questions throughout the performance, but has direct interactivity in two of the 7 parts when volunteers become part of the show, having instant cartoons done of them in the NAME GAME and creating a blaze of color in DANCING AND DRAWING.

  1. CAN THE ARTIST DO HIS SHOW AND WORKSHOPS TOGETHER?

Not exactly. The shows are a designed for large settings and audiences. The workshops are designed for small spaces and class size number of participants, but one or more workshops can follow a performance.

7.      WHERE CAN THE WORKSHOPS BE DONE BEST?

The workshops work best when there are art room with large tables or desks and large chalk boards or space enough for the artist to set up his easel. It is good to have shelves for individuals drawings.

8.      COULD THE ARTIST WORK IN CLASS ROOM?

Workshops can be done in classrooms if the teacher can tolerate a lot of chalk dust and accept a little re-organizing of chalk boards and working space,  The children’s desks are usually big enough for 11 by 17 inch paper to draw on.

9.      CAN THE ARTIST TAKE DOUBLE CLASSES?

Not normally. As in any teaching situation, the smaller the class number, the more attention the teacher can give to the  individuals learning curve. There are always exceptions to this rule so it is best for some kind of pre-arrangement at each institution.

10. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE DRAWINGS FROM THE PERFORMACE?

All seven separate drawings done in the show are left to the discretion of the school in what to do with them. The large full color pastel done at the conclusion of the show is appropriate to be hung for permanent display in the school. The pastel needs to be stabilized with a fixative or hair spray.

11. HOW DO WE PAY THE ARTIST?

Payment by check at the conclusion of the performance and/or workshop is the normal requirement, but with pre-arrangement payment can be done by check/mail within 30 days of services.  A contract of services will be sent to the venue on confirmation of dates.
